Dayton Public Schools To Close 3 Buildings

Officials with Dayton Pubic School announced Friday that it will close three schools at the end of the current school year.

The closures are expected to save the district at least $300,000 a year.

School officials said Loos Elementary, Orville Wright Elementary and Wilbur Wright Middle School will not reopen for the 2009-2010 school year.

According to school officials, students who attend Wilbur Wright, which houses eighth-graders will move to district high schools. It is expected that Wilbur Wright will be rebuilt at it’s current location as an elementary school.

The district said Loos Elementary, which is located on Wampler Avenue will not be rebuilt as part of the district’s master construction plan. Students who attend Orville Wright Elementary will attend classes in the old Grant Elementary building, which is located on Arcadia Boulevard until the new Wilbur Wright facility is built.
