DDN Reporter Found Dead Along Local Highway

Police said a reporter with Dayton Daily News was found dead in her car along Route 35 on Wednesday morning.

Valryn Warren, 50, of Vandalia covered news for suburban communities for the newspaper.

Sgt. Chris Colbert with the Ohio State Patrol said Warren had apparently been driving to work when she suffered some sort of a medical emergency and pulled onto the shoulder of eastbound 35 in Dayton.

Colbert said the ignition was in the off position and the car was partly on the driving surface of the road when a state trooper stopped to investigate and found Warren unresponsive.

Warren was pronounced dead at the scene, said James Glaser, who is with the Montgomery County coroner’s office. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday to determine the cause of death.

Warren joined Dayton Daily News in October and most recently covered news in Huber Heights, Riverside and Vandalia.

Kevin Riley, editor of the Dayton Daily News said, “She will be missed.”

Warren had two sons, Alex, 24, of New Lebanon, and Andy, 21, of Vandalia. She also has a 15-year-old daughter, Maddy.
