When you are only twenty-years-old and striking out on your own for the first time, you probably don't think that something bad is going to happen. Maybe that is why Destiny Mills did not tell her mother about her new life.

"She'd always say, 'Mom I'm okay. Don't worry about me,'" said Linda Walker of Huber Heights.

But, Destiny did talk about her feelings on social media.

"Have you ever wanted to say something but just couldn't?" Mills posted on Facebook March 1, 2015.

"I wish I could express how I really feel," said Destiny on March 15.

Walker didn't know the "Amar Destino Lealtad" Destiny was calling herself on a new Facebook page. She knew the daughter who loved soccer, fashion design and her family. And, she didn't know Destiny's new boyfriend posing with her in selfies.

"She always brought her boyfriends home for me to meet," said Walker. "She never brought him for some reason."

Linda thinks Destiny assumed that she would not approve of her new boyfriend, Mike. Then on March 24, Linda got a message from Mike in the middle of the night.

"He messaged me on Facebook to tell me my daughter was shot," Walker said.

Trotwood police were called to an apartment on Biddison Avenue on the report of shots fired. They found Destiny with a bullet wound to the chest. She died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. The boyfriend told police that somebody fired eight to ten bullets into the front door and wall of the apartment and Destiny was hit while lying on the couch. Linda Walker was stunned to see her daughter dead in the emergency room.

"They would not let me kiss her. They would not let me hold her. I head to stand and look at her at so many feet away with the whole hospital surrounding me," said Walker. "I had no privacy to say goodbye."

The family was shocked once again months later when they learned that Destiny's boyfriend, Michael Scott, was charged with a shooting death at Kricket's Tavern in Huber Heights. They started to wonder if Scott had played a role in Destiny's murder? [READ: Info on Kricket's Tavern shooting]

"We're not considering Mr. Scott a suspect in this particular homicide," said Captain John Porter of the Trotwood Police Department.

Captain Porter said were some altercations at the apartment earlier in the day that likely led to the gunfire.

"We do have other suspects that we're looking at and that's part of those incidents that led up to this and those people who had interactions between Michael and his brother just prior to the incident occurring," Porter said.

Detectives are asking the family to be patient.

In the meantime, Destiny's grandmother had a message for the shooter.

"You have two things you need to do. You need to get yourself right with the law and you need to get yourself right with Jesus. You have run out of time. It's over," said Rena Jordan. [WATCH: Grandmother: 'She had a life but it was stolen from her']

Walker said she will continue to speak out and she is hoping someone will come forward with new information.

"It's my daughter and I'm going to get justice for her, " Walker said.

Trotwood police say you can call them or call Crimestopper's at 222-STOP and you can remain anonymous if you h ave information regarding the shooting.
