A dog show focusing on the American Bully, a mix between a pitbull and an American bulldog, will be held in Clark County in order to encompass the show’s expanding fan base.
“Bringing Out The Bullies” will be held Saturday in the Arts and Crafts Building at the Clark County Fairgrounds.
This will be the third year of the show, but the first time the show is moving from its original downtown Dayton location.
“Last year we had 350 to 400 spectators and more than 100 bullies and pitbulls and it was a tight fit, so this year the Arts and Crafts Building is gigantic, definitely big enough to hold our event,” said James Cosby, host of the show and a media consultant for Cox Media Group Ohio.
“Bringing out the Bullies” is one of the many events involving live animals held on fairgrounds property outside of the annual fair, said Allan Hess, executive director of the Clark County Fairgrounds. Hess said the fairgrounds has events 40 weekends out of the year.
Even though there will be a large group of live animals in the building, no extra support or actions are taken by the fairgrounds for security, he added.
The dog show is a conformation show, meaning the dogs will be judged by a panel that is comparing each animal to the “ideal breed type of their standard,” according to the American Bully Kennel Club definition. But Cosby said their event is more than just a dog show. With music, food and multiple vendors, he calls it a “show with an urban twist.”
The event draws in participants from the east coast and from southern states, according to Cosby.
“The show promotes the breed in a positive way and we use this as an opportunity to show guests the fun, loving, nature of this magnificent and very loyal breed,” he added.
