Dorothy Lane Market — the family-owned, three-store grocery chain that operates stores in Oakwood, Washington Twp. and Springboro — has captured two national awards for its marketing efforts.
The Master Marketer Awards were announced this week by grocery wholesale distribution company SUPERVALU at its 5th Annual National Expo held in Eden Prairie, Minn. The competition, which recognizes best-in-class marketing efforts by independent grocery retailers served by SUPERVALU, drew more than 450 entries.

Winners were chosen based on creativity, clarity and effectiveness of the stores’ marketing efforts, according to a SUPERVALU release. Entries were assessed by professors and graduate students from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

DLM won for best overall Tier 2 Master Marketer, in a size category of stores more than 30,000 square feet in size and having four or fewer locations. And it won the top honor for marketing efforts for its “Fresh Department,” which a SUPERVALU spokeswoman defined as “Bakery, Deli, Meat, Seafood, Produce and Floral” departments.
“Over the past five years the group of Master Marketer category winners has demonstrated their unique capabilities and creativity in building and executing strong and successful marketing and merchandising programs around the country,” Mike Stigers, SUPERVALU executive vice president for wholesale, said in a release.
“We received a number of strong entries this year, showcasing many new and exciting ways that independent grocers are engaging their customers to stay relevant in a very competitive marketplace.”
