A Fairborn man called 911 after seeing a naked toddler knocking on a neighbor’s door. That led investigators to eventually condemn the home for poor conditions.

The child lived inside the home in the 100 block of Vine Street in Fairborn where she was trying to get in and was outside crying.

“She’s literally like banging on the door. I don’t know who she is, like I’ve never seen her before,” said the 911 caller.

Fairborn police responded and found that child and a second child, wearing only a diaper. Inside the home, they also found a third child sleeping.

Police say Derek Thomas, a family friend, was supposed to be watching the children at the time. He will face a charge of child endangering.

Thomas told officers he fell asleep.

Fairborn police say conditions inside — including foul smells and feces throughout — forced officers to call code enforcement. The home was condemned and a sign put up, forcing the family out until it is cleaned up.
