Fairfield Twp. narrows police chief candidates to 7

Fairfield Twp. has narrowed its list of candidates for police chief from 15 to seven, officials told the Journal-News today.

Trustee President Susan Berding said the names of the seven people, most of whom have been interviewed, will be released once candidates not selected for interviews have been notified.

Six of the seven police chief candidates have already been called in for a first interview, and the last candidate is to be interviewed today, according to Fairfield Twp. administrator Julie Vonderhaar.

Of the 15 who applied for the job that opened when former chief Matt Fruchey resigned at the end of March, seven at one point in their career held the title of police chief, and one is currently an acting police chief (Fairfield Twp.'s Doug Lanier).

Six others have some level of supervisory experience.
