Focus Week registration open for courses being offered Oct. 22-26

Registration for the final Focus Week of 2018, scheduled for Oct. 22-26 at the 88th Air Base Wing, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, will continue from now until the day before each course is held.

The October Focus Week is focused on performance improvement for both the individual and the organization. With a wide variety of classes, there should be something for everyone looking to further develop their skills and knowledge in the workplace.

Select classes continue to be offered through a training exchange partnership with Sinclair Community College as a part of the Air Force Community Partnership Initiative. The goal of this program is to enhance mission viability and improve quality of life for Airmen while implementing collaborative projects that provide mutual value to the government and local communities.

A new class being held on base is:

• Emotional Intelligence – A Different Way of Being Smart: Have you ever wondered why some people of high IQ flounder and those of modest IQ do surprisingly well? Explore a different way of thinking about intelligence and how it can strengthen personal and professional lives.

SCC course offerings, with seating limited to 30 each, will include:

• Leading a Diverse Inclusive Workforce – Gives insight necessary for making diversity key to growing a strong and inclusive organization

• Navigating the Waters of Change – Assesses individuals’ change management skills and areas for development; creates conditions for change readiness within the workplace; understands attitudes, aptitudes, motivation and behaviors that build support for change

Other course offerings this Focus Week:

• 8-Step Problem Solving – Provides a basic knowledge of the 8-Step Problem Solving Process which is becoming the standard methodology for addressing problems and opportunities for improvement. Small groups work through each step of the process using an interactive exercise.

• Aligning Performance with Organizational Goals – Identifies importance of individual and team performance roles in meeting/exceeding organizational goals and vision for mission accomplishments. Strategies and tools to enhance performance will be discussed, along with on-hands practical applications.

• Fundamentals of Team Building – Provides definition and mission of teams, explains guidelines of building effective teams. An activity will be conducted to broaden the participants’ understanding of team building.

• Taking Control of Email – Provides basic information required to set up a formal email/task management system by learning a better way to use Outlook

• E-Learning Online Development – Explores extensive “no-cost to you” courses or curricula offered through AF e-Learning, Universal Class and Transparent Language

• Improve Your Study Skills – Outlines benefits from a proven general study/test-taking skills class that can be applied to course 14, course 15, CDC’s, college and certification and promotion tests

• AFIT Education Opportunities for Civilians – Learn about educational opportunities at AFIT for civilians, from certificates to master’s and doctorate degrees. Includes tour of several of AFIT’s research labs

• Careers in Engineering – Shares the journey of a leader in the engineering community from their start to their current leadership position

• Civilian Force Development Opportunities – Briefs on various aspects and options of workforce development from the Air Force Personnel Center level down to the base level

• So, You Want to Get Promoted – Discusses key things you need to do in your career to move forward, no matter what grade or series you are. Learn tricks of the trade and get a firsthand perspective on what hiring panels are looking for in their workforce.

• Understanding Your Individual Development Plan – Get tips and recommendations to effectively work with your supervisor/employee to develop an IDP.

• Wright-Patterson Air Force Base 101 – For new employees and anyone who desires a deeper knowledge of Wright Patterson AFB and understanding the role the base plays in contributing to the USAF mission. Class begins with an overview of base history and journeys through geography, demographics and the base’s impact on the economy.

• Front Stage Customer Service – Provides new employees with strategies while working in the customer service industry within a military setting.

• Personnel Security 201 – Geared toward individuals who are involved in Personnel Security Program Management. Addresses the Personnel Security Investigations Process beyond basic concepts and principles and recent changes in personnel security guidance and impacts to Personnel Security Program Management. Will compare and contrast the Joint Personnel Adjudication System and the new Defense Information Security System.

Registration is open to all 88 ABW employees, both military and civilian. The wider Wright-Patterson AFB audience is encouraged to attend as space allows.

AFLCMC Focus Week registration open

The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Fall Focus Week sessions will take place Oct. 22-26.

Focus Week is a period set aside quarterly to accomplish mandatory, leadership, acquisition training to gain continuous learning points, as well as knowledge from a different discipline. Focus Weeks provide vital acquisition training, policy updates, core skills and operational perspectives to the acquisition community.

Students may participate in these events either in person or online (for some courses), allowing AFLCMC to reach numerous geographic locations.

Registration is now available for most courses via the Acquisition Now Continuous Learning (CL) website, however additional courses offerings may become available as Focus Week approaches. Search for course offerings by going to https://www.atrrs.army.mil/channels/acqnowcl/, click on “Apply for a CL Event” and search under AFLCMC Focus Week.
