“We are deeply saddened by the death of Mark Kingseed,” Compton said. “As mayor, Mark led our city through difficult times, including the recession and state budget cuts while always promoting robust development.”
Compton said that Kingseed had the ability to bring people together.
“Mark was a natural leader who spent much of his career as a public servant in Centerville,” Compton said. “He had the rare ability to bring people together, always fought for what he believed in and was fair and objective. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Joannie and his family. We will all miss our friend Mark Kingseed.”
Kingseed was diagnosed with multiple myeloma — a treatable, but incurable, blood cancer — in 2006. He received a stem-cell transplant in 2007, and had gone into remission.
