Former Union City, Ohio Fire Chief Sentenced In Theft Charge

Former Union City, Ohio Fire Chief Doug Wright was slapped with a suspended 6-month prison term Wednesday afternoon by a visiting judge in Darke County Common Pleas Court in Greenville on a charge of theft-in-office by deception.

According to Assistant Darke County Prosecutor Phil Hoover, Wright used fire department funds to repair the transmission on his personal vehicle. On February 1, Wright entered a plea of guilty to one theft charge in exchange for the dismissal of a second count.

In court, the judge also placed Wright on probation for two years, fined him $500, gave him one year to pay restitution in the amount of $3,085 and ordered him to work 60 hours of community service.

Wright lost his job as fire chief in Union City over the theft.
