Former Used Car Dealer Sentenced To Prison

A former used car dealer was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to repay over $470,000 after he was convicted of eight crimes Monday.

Charles D. Stapleton, 49, fraudulently obtained loans to finance auto sales, using the identities of his friends, family, business partner, employees and customers.

"The defendant admitted to manipulating vehicles titles to obtain money and defraud banks," Montgomery County Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck, Jr. said. "He even financed some vehicles two and three times in order to perpetrate his Ponzi scheme."

Stapleton formerly operated Stapleton Automotive Sales in Huber Heights. The business is no longer operating and is now the location of a Sonic Drive-Through

Stapleton also owned other car dealerships that are no longer in business. He was convicted of three counts of aggravated theft over $100,000, two counts of grand theft over $5,000 and three counts of identity fraud.
