Four Killed In Mercer County Traffic Crash

Two cars collided at a rural intersection in Mercer County early Saturday morning, killing all four occupants of one car and sending the two from the other car to the hospital in Coldwater with minor injuries, and then to the Mercer County Jail in Celina.

It was at the intersection of State Route 716A and Brockman Road northeast of Chickasaw shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday.

Sheriff Jeff Grey said the driver of one of the cars failed to stop at a stop sign. That driver is identified as Nicholas Schwieterman, 22, of Chickasaw. He was booked into the county jail on four counts of aggravated vehicular homicide. His bond was set at $1 million.

A passenger in Schwieterman's car, Kyle Schmitmeyer, 21, of near Celina, was also arrested and booked on a charge of obstructing official business "for disrupting the investigation at the scene," according to the sheriff.

Schwieterman and Schmitmeyer were first treated at Mercer Health Center in Coldwater before being taken into custody.

The victims were all pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by coroner Dr. Tim Heinrichs.

They were identified as the driver, Jordan Moeller, 18, of Brockman Road near Chickasaw, and passengers, Jordan Diller, 19, State Route 716, Maria Stein, Jordan Goettemoeller, 19, Fort Recovery-Minster Road, Maria Stein, and Bradley Roeckner, 19, Brockman Road near Chickasaw. All four were 2007 graduates of Marion Local High School in Maria Stein.

"This is a terrible tragedy and our hearts go out to the families," said Sheriff Grey. "Marion Township is a strong community and I am sure the people of this community will pull together to help all of the families involved heal."

Grey said they suspect alcohol as a contributing factor to this deadly crash.
