It took two words from his wife to convince President Barack Obama that the slogan “Yes we can” wasn’t “too corny.”
Obama's former political adviser David Axelrod opened up about the now-famous tagline in a recent interview with the New York Times.
Axelrod told the Times Obama questioned the slogan while filming a commercial for his U.S. Senate campaign:

“He read through the script once, and after the first take he said, ‘Gee, is that too corny?’ I explained why I thought it was a great tagline, and he turned to Michelle and said, ‘What do you think?’ She just slowly shook her head from side to side and said, ‘Not corny.’ “
