Trustees to meet in executive session

Beavercreek Township Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting today to meet in executive session with an attorney concerning disputes involving the township that are the subject of pending or imminent court action.

The meeting will start at 8 a.m. in the community room on the lower level of Fire Station No. 61 located at 2195 Dayton Xenia Road.

Kidsafe Safety event set for next weekend

An Operation Kidsafe Safety Event is scheduled for April 23-24 at the Sugar Maple Festival.

The event, sponsored by Bright Now Dental, is free. Parents take home the only record of the visit that is ready to hand to law enforcement in an emergency. Safety tips to start a family safety action plan also are included.

The festival includes a dog show, 5K run, parade, pancake breakfast and a sweetheart contest. STAFF REPORT

Daffodil show comes to Wartinger Park

The Southwest Ohio Daffodil Society will be bringing its 2016 Annual Daffodil Show to Wartinger Park in a joint program with the Beavercreek Historical Society.

The daffodil show and open house will take place on April 30 from 1-4 p.m. and May 1 from noon-4 p.m. at the park located at 3080 Kemp Road in Beavercreek.

The daffodil society has been presenting an annual show for 46 years. Many daffodils will be on display at the barn and the log homes in the park will be open for tours on both days.

City hires new police officer

Christopher Sopher was sworn in Monday as the newest police officer in the city of Fairborn.

A West Carrollton resident and graduate of Chillicothe High School, Sopher began working as a jailer with the Fairborn Police Department in September 2014.

While working as a jailer, he attended the Greene County Criminal Justice Academy, graduated in May 2015 and obtained his Ohio Peace Officers Certification.

Subsequently, he was then hired by the Miami University Police Department to serve as a police officer. STAFF REPORT

Annual spring plant sale May 14

The Greene County Master Gardeners is hosting its annual spring plant sale fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Greene County Extension Office, 100 Fairground Road.

A large selection of healthy annuals, perennials, herbs, trees, shrubs and a variety of vegetables will be available. Gently-used gardening supplies also will be available.
