FIRST REPORT

The latest (11 p.m. Wednesday) advisory from National Hurricane Center is indicating that Tropical Storm Hermine has strengthened with maximum sustained winds at 60 mph and gusts as high as 70 mph.

The storm is forecast to continue to slowly gain strength, possibly reaching hurricane status with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph before making landfall Thursday evening.

Heavy rain and tidal surge will likely produce coastal flooding with rainfall amounts up to 10 inches possible across northern Florida. The storm will then slowly weaken as it moves up the East Coast during the Labor Day weekend, likely soaking the Mid-Atlantic states with 3 to 6 inches of rain through the holiday.

Gusty winds and even tornadoes will be possible along and east of the storm track.
