Historic Downtown Sidney Building Demolished

The city of Sidney is in the progress of removing a public danger from the center of their downtown district.

It was recently discovered that the four-story Taylor Building is unsafe and falling apart.

At noon on Thursday, equipment was brought in and began to tear down the structure. A large crowd of people gathered on the courthouse lawn to watch, remembering the historic building and taking pictures. The building dates back to 1884, and it has been used as a theater, an opera house, a Masonic temple and the home of the Knights of Columbus.

The demolition crew is from Lima and it only has 10 workings days to level the building and remove the debris in the $350,000 project as the city has plans for the land.
