Huber Heights council fails to appoint new member

Huber Heights did not act to appoint a Ward 5 Councilmember at Monday night’s City Council meeting.

Three applicants interviewed last week: Eva Newby; Michael Urig; and Jerry Wamsley.

According to Clerk of Council Anthony Rodgers, a motion was made Monday night to appoint Wamsley, but failed by a vote of 4-3, as five affirmative votes are needed.

A motion to appoint Newby to the Ward 5 vacancy also then failed by a vote of 3-3, with one abstention, Rodgers said.

Rodgers said if City Council does not act on the Ward 5 vacancy by Wednesday night at midnight, then the power to appoint will shift to Mayor Tom McMasters.

Rodgers said McMasters indicated at Monday night’s meeting that he had intended to appoint Newby if council failed to act.

Zachary Beck and Roger Hensley also applied for the vacancy, but withdrew their names last week prior to the interview sessions.

Tracy Dudley resigned as a Huber Heights council member last month.

No reason was given in Dudley’s resignation letter as to why she resigned.

Dudley was appointed to council July 9, 2012, to serve out the term of Hensley, who resigned earlier that year.

Dudley ran unopposed in November 2013. Her current four-year term expires Dec. 31, 2017.
