Huntington Bank customers hit with double debit charges

Huntington National Bank has corrected online accounts as of about 1 p.m. Wednesday, after inadvertently double-charging some customers for debit card and ATM transactions, the company said in a statement.

Accounts have been corrected to reflect debit card transaction reversals for double-posted debit or ATM transactions from the weekend through Monday, the Columbus-based bank said.

Any fees incorrectly assessed due to incorrect account balances will be restored overnight.

“We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience. We are committed to working with individual customers to address any remaining concerns and encourage outreach to us if needed during the Thursday business day or beyond,” the statement said.

On Wednesday, a recorded message on the bank’s customer service phone line alerted clients to the error.

Huntington Bank has retail branch locations at 2401 Far Hills Ave. in Oakwood; 3333 Princeton Road in Hamilton; and 5 West North St. and 1175 N. Bechtle Ave. in Springfield. The bank also has numerous ATMs throughout the region.
