Indiana trooper OK after crash with semi in heavy rains

An Indiana State Police officer is OK after his cruiser was side-swiped by a semitrailer on I-70 East this morning.

The crash happened at 9:25 a.m. near the Knightstown exit when Trooper Scott Keegan was passing the semitrailer in a heavy rainstorm, according to the release.

The semitrailer swerved into the passing lane and struck Keegan’s cruiser, which then struck a bridge deck wall, according to the release.

Keegan, 35, a 12-year veteran with ISP, was complaining of back pain from the crash and was checked out by medics at the scene.

The semi driver, 47-year-old Ronald Weber, of Danbury, Ill., apparently changed lanes because of merging traffic from the Knightstown exit, according to the release.

Authorities said Weber was cited for unsafe lane movement and a log book violation.
