Jack in the Box enters West Chester market

Residents hungry for a taste of Jack in the Box no longer have to travel to other states after the first Ohio location of the California-based hamburger chain opened in Butler County.

Jack in the Box celebrated its Ohio grand opening Sept. 17 at 7425 Tylersville Road. The eatery is open 24-hours, seven days a week and offers a wide-variety of food items — from the Ultimate Cheeseburger and Jack’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich to 99-cent tacos and mini churros.

Lisa Mulligan, district manager of Jack in the Box, said West Chester’s grand opening has been one of the most successful of the restaurant chain. She said the residents have “opened their arms to us” and provided great feedback.

“They’ve been patient, understanding, laughing with our team,” Mulligan, a West Chester resident of 15 years, said. “All of our managers come from a five- to 10-mile radius.”

To help support the community, Jack in the Box has become a three-year sponsor of Lakota Local Schools’ sports and will be giving out coupons at basketball games this season.

Mulligan said customers who aren’t familiar with Jack in the Box have been most impressed with the variety of items, from hamburgers and chicken to teriyaki bowls.

“People are surprised we have tacos and how well they are,” Mulligan said. “We had one order of 100 tacos.”

Jack in the Box’s expansive menu also includes side items such as seasoned curly fries, egg rolls and stuffed jalapenos; a dessert menu with Chocolate Overload Cake, mini churros and ice cream shakes; value menu with products ranging from five chicken nuggets for $1.29 and two tacos for 99 cents; and an all-day breakfast menu including croissant and biscuit sandwiches and the Jumbo Breakfast Platter with mini pancakes, scrambled eggs, hash browns and a choice of bacon or sausage.

Brian Luscomb, spokesman for Jack in the Box, said in selecting restaurant locations, Jack in the Box considers demographics such as age, income, traffic patterns and population growth.

“The Cincinnati market is a great market for us,” Luscomb said. “People there know who we are because of our long-standing presence in the Midwest,” adding that Jack in the Box has about 70 locations in the St. Louis, Mo. market.

Luscomb said Jack in the Box is also preparing to open a second Cincinnati-area location sometime in October on Ridge Avenue in Columbia Twp. The company recently opened its first Indiana location in Indianapolis.

The West Chester Twp. location is managed by Steven Jones and staffed with more than 130 local residents. The location — just off of Interstate 75 — has 24/7 drive-thru and dine-in service and can accommodate 52 guests inside and 15 on the patio.
