Judo Instructor Pleads Guilty To Sex With Teen

Daniel Doyle, 32, of Spring Valley, pleaded guilty in federal court today to charges he had sex with his 14 year old female student.

Doyle, a judo instructor, admitted the sexual activity occurred on several occasions between August 2003 and April 2007. Doyle chaperoned the girl to judo competitions in Venezuela, Estonia and Russia.

He admits videotaping at least one encounter. According to federal court documents, Doyle had been coaching the girl since she was 8 years old. The sexual encounters began at age 14 and continued to age 16.

A federal judge ordered Daniel Doyle on home detention. As he left the court Friday, Doyle verbally lashed out at a News Center 7 videographer trying to obtain an interview.  Doyle declined to comment.

Under the terms of Friday's plea agreement, Doyle faces a minimum sentence of 100 months in prison and up to 10 years.  Additional penalties include a fine of up to $250,000, restitution in an amount to be determined by the court, and supervised release from 5 years to life.

Doyle has also been asked to surrender all video-making equipment, videos and pictures containing the girl's image.  Doyle will be required to register as a federal sexual offender after he serves time in prison.

Daniel Doyle is scheduled for a sentencing hearing February 28, 2008.
