Kettering doughnut shop closes

Kettering has one fewer doughnut shop, although that shop’s doughnuts will still be available just down the street.

The Ulbrich’s Hometown Bakery that opened three years ago at 3020 Far Hills Ave. at East Dorothy Lane shut down permanently this week after its owners decided not to renew the shop’s lease, according to William Ulbrich, co-owner of the 102-year-old Piqua-based doughnut chain.

But the Ulbrich’s doughnuts will continue to be available at the nearby Big Sky Bread Company at 3070 Far Hills Ave., just south of the strip retail center that housed the doughnut shop, Ulbrich said.

Ulbrich’s also operates doughnut shops in Englewood, Huber Heights, Fairborn, Troy and Sidney in addition to its store in Piqua, and it is poised to open a new shop in Enon, Ulbrich said.
