Kroger Expands Beef Recall

The Cincinnati/Dayton Division office of Kroger stores announced Tuesday that it is notifying customers who may have purchased recalled Beef Ground Store Made Ground Beef Trimmings supplied by JBS Swift Beef Co., which Monday expanded its recall of beef that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.

The Cincinnati/Dayton Division area is comprised of stores in Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, Southeast Indiana and the Greater Miami Valley.

Kroger is asking customers to check their freezers at home for certain packages of the Beef Ground Store Made Ground Beef trimmings with sell-by dates from April 27 to June 1, 2009. Packaging with the following UPC numbers and sell by dates is included in this recall.

Beef Ground Store Made Ground Beef Trimmings (T) with UPS No. 21165300000, 21165310000, 21165320000, 21165330000

It is important to know that none of these items are in Kroger stores today.

Kroger is notifying customers with register receipt messages and telephone and e-mail recall alerts if they purchased a recalled item using their shopper’s card. Customers who have the recalled items should not consume them and may return them to a store for a full refund or replacement.

As the Fourth of July weekend approaches, Kroger reminds customers to always use a meat thermometer to cook ground beef to an internal temperature of 160° F to ensure it is safe.
