Lima Doctor Denies Killing Wife

A Lima anesthesiologist accused in the 2006 carbon-monoxide death of his wife, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of aggravated murder.

Dr. Mark Wangler was being held in the Allen County Jail Tuesday on $1 million bond.

Sheriff Sam Crish declined to say what evidence led to the doctor's arrest on Monday.

According to a sheriff's report at the time, Wangler called emergency responders to the home early on the morning of Sept. 4, 2006. He said he woke to the sound of a carbon monoxide alarm and attempted to wake his wife, Kathy Wangler, but she was not responsive.

Wangler remarried about a year later. A message seeking comment was left Tuesday with Wangler's attorney.

He faces a Sept. 29 pretrial hearing.
