Local ALDI store to shut down Sunday for 2-month rebuild

The ALDI store at 6300 Brandt Pike (Ohio 201) will shut down after the close of business June 21 for an extensive remodeling project, a spokesman for the grocery chain said this morning.

The work will require the store to remain closed for about two months, according to Dan Gavin, division vice president for ALDI.

Plans call for completely reworking the store’s interior, upgrading all of its refrigeration systems, enlarging the existing store’s sales floor and adding a fifth aisle to the four-aisle store, Gavin said.

The increased retail space will allow ALDI to add a wider range of healthier options such as organic produce, USDA Choice-grade beef, a recently introduced gluten-free product line and a line of products free of artificial colors, flavors or unnecessary enhancers, Gavins said.

Space will be added to the checkout area, and refrigerated display areas will be enlarged, the division vice president said. The new store will have higher ceilings, LED lighting and other enhancements designed to provide customers with “an enjoyable, easy-to-navigate shopping experience,” he said.

ALDI has opened new grocery stores in Bellefontaine and Hamiliton within the last two years. Its remodel of the Huber Heights store comes as several large retailers, such as Walmart and Target, have added grocery items to their stores. Several grocers, including Kroger and Meijer, have launched extensive renovation projects at existing Dayton-area stores.
