Winans was one of the winners of the 2017 Candy Clinic, in which chocolate makers share new product innovations as well as retail and merchandising ideas during RCI's Annual Convention and Industry Expo in Chicagoland, IL. Top honors are awarded to the confectioners with the best idea in a variety of categories.

The Piqua-based company won the Candy Clinic Award for "Best Christmas, Valentine or Easter Idea" for its "BIG MAX Gives Back Easter Campaign," in which customers in Winans' Miami County stores helped decide which of five local charities Winans would donate to.

“Each year RCI members look forward to Candy Clinic for new ideas,” Angie Burlison, RCI executive director, said in a release. “Innovation, creative thinking and marketing are hallmarks of successful confectionery businesses across the country and we enjoy being an avenue for idea sharing.”
Winans Chocolates + Coffees has 16 stores, including five in the Troy and Piqua area. It traces its roots to the late 1800s, and is now under the fourth generation of family ownership of Joe Reiser and Laurie Winans Reiser. Its six Dayton-area locations in Montgomery and Greene counties are franchise-owned.
Laurie Winans Reiser said today, June 29 that the award-winning Easter promotion generated $1,636 for local charities, and plans call for repeating the promotion next year.
