A substitute teacher was asked to leave near the start of the school day Tuesday after reportedly telling students if they did not complete an assignment, “I will shoot you,” according to a letter to parents from Springboro Junior High School Principal Jon Franks.

A student reported the comment made during a first period class, and the sub was immediately removed from the classroom and questioned, Franks said. The substitute apologized and willingly left the building after only having contact with first-period students.

Scott Marshall, district communications coordinator, said Tuesday night the sub, who was not identified, had worked in the district before with no reported incidents from students, parents or staff.

The district made Springboro police aware of the sub’s comment and conducted an internal investigation.

The comment was not considered a credible threat, and no weapon was found. There also was no disruption to the school day.

Springboro Schools also has alerted the Warren County Educational Service Center, which partners with the Southwest Ohio Council of Governments and Warren County Commission to provide substitute teachers for participating districts in the county.
