The 100-mile run will travel from Buckminn’s D&D Harley-Davidson, 1213 Cincinnati Ave. in Xenia to the Dayton VA Medical Center campus, 4100 W. Third St. Participants will receive a poker card at scheduled stops, and the person with the winning hand will win a cash prize, according to Kirk Yerkes, U.S. Veterans MC chapter president.
The event’s proceeds will fund a scholarship for a veteran to attend firefighting courses. Snow wanted to become a firefighter after military service, Yerkes said.
Registration is from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. the day of the event. A map will be handed out at registration. Costs are $20 per motorcycle or car, and $5 for each additional passenger, according to organizers. A band and skydiving demonstration is planned.
Snow, 25, died from enemy small arms fire Nov. 14, 2010 in Kunar province Afghanistan. The soldier used his body as a shield and dragged two wounded soldiers to safety.
The 2003 Fairborn High School graduate was a radio telephone operator with the 101st Airborne Division based at Fort Campbell, Ky. He received the Silver Star posthumously for his actions in an October 2011 ceremony at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. A section of Ohio Route 235 is named after the soldier.
