$25,000 donated for hospital expansion

DAYTON — The James M. Cox Jr. Foundation has granted $25,000 to the Children’s Medical Center of Dayton to complete the renovation and expansion of the Soin Trauma and Emergency Center at the hospital.

“This gift from the Cox Foundation underscores our wonderful relationship with the Cox family and with the Cox Media Group,” said Dayton Children’s President and Chief Executive Officer David Kinsaul. “We are grateful for the volunteer and board leadership and our continued relationship with WHIO and K99.1FM. Cox Media is truly part of Dayton Children’s family.”

The Dayton Daily News, WHIO-TV and Radio, and K99.1FM are part of Cox Media Group Ohio.

Led by chair Patti Schear of Oakwood, a committee of nine volunteers has raised funds for the campaign for nearly three years. The fundraising goal for the project was to raise $5.3 million on a total cost of $8.5 million. The campaign will conclude in June with the opening of the completed trauma and emergency center.

The Soin Pediatric Trauma and Emergency Center is named for the lead donors to the project, Raj and Indu Soin, who announced their donation in September 2009 when the renovation began. Other major donors to the project include the TWIGS Auxiliary, Linda Black-Kurek and James Kurek, Dr. and Mrs. G. Frank Johnson, Dr. and Mrs. Mason Jones, and Lee and Patti Schear. A total of 130 donors have contributed to the project to date.
