How to donate
The Monroe Local School District is still 13 choir robes short of its goal of purchasing 65. Anyone interested in making donations can send checks (made out to Monroe Local Schools) to 231 Macready Ave., Monroe, OH 45050. In the memo part of the check please write: for choir robe. MONROE — New attire sometimes brings a new energy — and the a cappella choir in the Monroe Local School District will be the first to try new choir robes the community helped purchase.
The choir will wear them at a concert in the spring.
The Monroe High School Choral Boosters raised $7,900 through group projects and donations made by the administration, some teachers and community members to purchase 52 new choir robes, said Superintendent Elizabeth Lolli. The robes cost $125 each.
“There was a $220 donation from the elementary school in memory of my father-in-law (Frank Lolli) who died a couple weeks ago. They collected $220 as a staff and donated that to the choir robe fund, which I thought was very kind of them,” she said.
“I was looking for enough to buy 65 robes, but I’ve got enough to buy 52. So that’s good. I’m please with that.”
Lolli said the robes, which have been ordered, should be available for students to participate in the district Ohio Music Education Association Large Group Contest in March.
The choir robes are similar to what students wear during graduation.
They feature a blue robe with a solid gold stole on one side with an ‘M’ for Monroe on the other side, she said.
The district sought donations because the a cappella choir does not have choir robes for competitions and formal concerts. Instead, Lolli said the choir members have worn dark pants and white tops.
