Accident shuts down Stroop Road

KETTERING — East Stroop Road is shut down between Wilmington Pike and Claybourne Road after a multiple vehicle accident that trapped one man in a pick-up truck.

Kettering police said it appears that the driver of the pick-up was driving erratically while travelling westbound at a high rate of speed when he clipped another pick-up truck and crossed into the eastbound lanes. That’s where he collided with two eastbound cars causing the truck to flip onto its side and slide through the intersection of East Stroop and Hempstead Station Drive.

The truck ended up on its top and partially on top of a another eastbound vehicle. Firefighters pulled the trapped driver of the pickup and he was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

One other driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

“We are suspecting alcohol is in play here,” said Kettering Sgt. Craig Moore. He said a witness who was driving behind the pick-up truck at Stroop and Marshall was in the process of calling police to report an impaired driver when the accident occurred.

Police said the road will remain closed for several hours while the crash is investigated and cleaned up.
