The first four-star female general in the Air Force will become a top adviser to the Pentagon on issues related to women in the military.

Retired Gen. Janet C. Wolfenbarger, former commander of the Air Force Materiel Command, was sworn in Tuesday to become one of three new members on the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services, according to the Pentagon.

The panel of civilian volunteers advises the Pentagon on the “recruitment, retention, treatment, employment, integration, and well-being of highly qualified professional women” in the armed forces, the Defense Department said.

The Beavercreek High School graduate was in the first class of women to graduate at the Air Force Academy in 1980.
