So when she walked through the door, the Beverly Gardens Elementary School student jumped off the stage and into her arms.
"It meant everything," she said. "I just told him when he saw me, not to knock me over when he hugged me. It means a lot, it definitely means a lot."
Crystal Dozier arrived home just before the ceremony. She walked in and kissed her son on the cheek and cried.
She has been stationed in Italy since 2011.
