Ivan, who identified himself as a water supply operator with Montgomery County Water Services, said the problem is a broken valve that went bad on Sunday.
Ivan, who declined to tell us his last name, said the county was waiting for a crew from Ohio Utilities Protection Service to mark the street for the location of other underground utility lines. The OUPS crew completed the marking Wednesday.
According to OUPS.org, state law mandates everyone — including municipal public works departments — must contact OUPS at least 48 hours but no more than 10 working days (excluding weekends and legal holidays) before beginning any digging project.
Ivan said it’s impossible to determine how much water has spilled onto the street because of the broken valve, but residents are not being charged because the water is not passing through their meters.
