The Village of Arcanum has announced that is has hired a new police chief, Marcus Ballinger, a 19-year veteran of law enforcement in Sharon Township and the Richwood Police Department near Columbus.

Arcanum began searching for a new chief of police after the previous chief, Andrew Ashbaugh, resigned from the position amid an investigation for alleged “impropriety” with a female.

According to a Darke County Sheriff’s report, Ashbaugh created a fake Facebook profile to talk to high school students.

Ashbaugh claimed the profile was meant to help him get an inside perspective of the school’s drug problem, the report said.

A girl told investigators that Ashbaugh used the account to talk to her, approached her at home and asked her to job shadow him.

Investigators said that they didn’t have enough to charge Ashbaugh.
