The vehicle believed to be involved in the incident Monday was spotted by a Troy police crew on routine patrol at the Motel 6 on South Dorset Road Friday afternoon, Troy Police Det. Capt. Jeff Kunkleman said. Further investigation found the vehicle at the motel was a different vehicle, but it had the license plate of the vehicle involved in Monday’s incident.

“We thought that one of the persons in the hotel room was related to that that incident (Monday), which we’ve been able to confirm,” Kunkleman said. “In the process we’ve recovered several different varieties of illegal drugs, a stolen gun, and have three people in custody.”

The identities of all three people arrested were not released.

On Monday, Jody Staten, 47, of Troy, suffered serious head injuries after she jumped and fell off an SUV speeding away from a suspected drug transaction, Troy police said earlier this week.

Staten was taken by a CareFlight medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital where she remains a patient Friday, according to a hospital spokesperson. Her condition was not available.

The driver, who has only been identified by police as a woman, left the scene, but came to the Troy police station later in the afternoon to speak with officers, Troy police Capt. Joe Long said Tuesday.

The vehicle was traveling at excessive speeds, believed to be up to 50 mph, when Staten fell off the SUV, according to investigators.

Additional details were not available. We’ll update this story as we learn more.
