Best Buy reopens today after Monday fire

The Best Buy store near the Dayton Mall will reopen at 10 a.m. today, according to spokesman Ryan Stanzel.

UPDATE @ 4:43 p.m.: General cleaning will keep the Best Buy store on Mall Woods Drive, near the Dayton Mall, closed "for a couple of days," Ryan Stanzel, a spokesman said.

“We’re cleaning it up as fast as we can,” he said.

UPDATE @ 1:56 p.m.

A spokesman at Best Buy Corporate Headquarters in Richfield, Minn., Ryan Stanzel, issued a statement on the store near the Dayton Mall closing, stating the the store is being cleaned and damage is being assessed.

“We¹re glad to report that all of our employees are safe,” according to the statement. “The store was closed, so there were no customers in the building at the time. The store remains closed while the authorities can assess any damage and assure the building is safe for customers and employees.”

Best Buy was closed on Tuesday after a fire late Monday night forced an evacuation of the store.

Several confused customers were pulling into the parking lot and seeing the notice on the door, “We are Closed.”

The fire, reported shortly before midnight, was contained to a trash compactor, but the store, at 131 Mall Woods Drive, filled with smoke and all workers had to exit the building.

A fire official said there was some smoke damage in the building, but the store was expected to open as normal.
