That wouldn’t be the only case this weekend where thousands lost power unexpectedly.
Early Saturday morning, Dayton Power & Light crews worked to restore power to nearly 5,500 homes affected by outages in Greene County. Those outages were caused by storm damage and a single-car crash that took out a high-tension power pole on Jasper Road in New Jasper Twp.

Saturday night, The Medical Center at Elizabeth Place off Edwin C. Moses Boulevard in Dayton experienced a small-scale outage by comparison, leaving the building and 162 neighboring homes without power. The building was able to use a backup generator to maintain power, as crews were initially confused as to what caused the outages.
That is until Dayton Power & Light confirmed a bird damaged an air-break switch, causing Elizabeth Place and 162 customers to lose power for nearly an hour.
