Neighbors helped state troopers catch two people who fled after a pursuit ended with a crash on Troy Street in Dayton.

An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper attempted to pull over car for a speeding violation on state Route 4 but the driver did not stop, according to the patrol’s Dayton Post.

The trooper called off the pursuit after the vehicle exited state Route 4 at Valley Street. Shortly after calling off the pursuit, troopers found the car had crashed into a fire hydrant at the intersection of Troy and Dell streets in Dayton.

The car was unoccupied, but neighbors pointed out to law enforcement where the two occupants ran and were hiding, officials said.

A female, whose age wasn’t provided, was a passenger in the car and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The suspected driver, a juvenile male, was taken into custody.

Troopers also found a gun, drugs and drug paraphernalia inside the car, investigators said.

A brief pursuit involving state troopers on state Route 4 has ended with a crash in Dayton on Troy Street Monday morning, according to dispatchers.

A state trooper started a pursuit on southbound state Route 4 around 8:30 a.m. after a vehicle didn’t stop for an attempted traffic stop, initial reports indicate.

The state trooper reported he lost sight of the vehicle but later found it crashed at the intersection of Troy and Dell streets, according to emergency scanner traffic.

The driver was not found with the car and investigators are working to find and determine who was driving at the time of the pursuit.
