Summer concert series ends Sept. 10

The 2017 Summer Concert Series, presented by the Centerville Arts Commission, concludes Sept. 10 with GuitarFest.

Professional guitarists will showcase guitar styles that include classical, folk, jazz, rock and fingerstyle.

This concert will be held from 4-7 p.m. at Stubbs Park Amphitheater, 255 W. Spring Valley Road.

Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs.

All concerts are free and open to the public, although donations are accepted. Concessions are available for purchase.

Throwback movie night set for Aug. 25

Centerville Library, 111 W. Spring Valley Road, is hosting a throwback family movie night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 25.

This month’s movie is Angels in the Outfield. The movie is rated PG and will be shown in the Cynthia Klinck Community Room.

Popcorn and snacks will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring bean bag chairs or pillows.

KETTERING

Kettering ice arena opens Aug. 28

The Kettering Recreation Complex ice arena, 2900 Glengarry Drive, will start the 2017-2018 season on Aug. 28.

Weekend open skates will begin from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 2.

The cost is $3.75 for residents and $7.50 for nonresidents, ages 3 to 17; $4.25 for residents and $8.50 for nonresidents, for adults; and free for children 2 and younger with a paid adult.

Center open for birthday parties

The Habitat Environmental Center, 3036 Bellflower St., is open for wild-themed birthday parties.

The birthday boy or girl can choose among four party experiences: happy bird~day, it’s a bug’s world, nuts for trees or seasonal shenanigans.

Register early for basketball league

The youth basketball fall league will be open to boys and girls 7-18. Games and practices will be held at the Kettering Recreation Complex gymnasium, 2900 Glengarry Drive.

The league runs Sept. 25 through Nov. 11. Practices will be held one evening per week and games will be held on Saturdays.

Coaches will be volunteer parents. T-shirts are included in the price of registration.

The registration deadline is Sept. 8. The cost is $45 for residents and $55 for nonresidents.
