Quiz team wins nationals

The Tippecanoe High School Academic Quiz Team was awarded the national championship in the small public school category at the National History Bowl and Bee Championship April 23 in Washington, D.C. The team overall finished 19th out of more than 170 teams, the highest the team has placed at a national tournament, said Joe Bellas, team adviser. Team members were seniors Laurel Spangler, Nathan Mahaney and Michael Gross; junior Faith Walker; and freshmen Gabe Parsons, Ethan Heitkamp and Michael Vestey.

Dogs welcome at Yappy Hour

A Yappy Hour will be held at Hinders Sports Bar and Grill, 902 W. Main St., Tipp City, to support the American Cancer Society’s Bark for Life. The event will be held Monday, May 9, from 6-8 p.m. People are invited to bring their dogs and join others on the patio. A $5 donation for each dog will benefit the Bark for Life of Miami County.

Tornado sires targeted

Butler Twp. is getting its first tornado siren with plans to add another siren in each of the next six year. The township trustees April 25 approved purchase of a sire to be placed at North Dixie Drive and Little York Road.

Exhibit features Bibles

The Museum of Troy History has reopened for the year with an exhibit exploring the relationship between the Bibles of Miami Valley residents and their family history.

The exhibit features a small collection of Bibles from as early as the 1850s and through the 1960s. The exhibit will run through the end of May. The museum at 124 E. Water St. is open Saturday and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.

Education nominations wanted

The Troy Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the 2016 Outstanding Educator of the Year award.

Those nominated must be a professionally certified educator living and/or working within the Troy area who have made a significant contribution to the community and the field of education. Nomination forms are available at the chamber and on its website at www.troyohiochamber.com. The deadline is May 31.

Animal shelter on TV show

The Miami County Animal Shelter has partnered with WOTVC Piqua Local TV 5 for a pet TV program named “Wags & Whiskers.” The program hosted by shelter director Marcia Doncaster and her rescue dog, Thor, will cover a variety of topics. Program times can be found on Piqua Channel 5 or its website a www.piquatv5.com. The program also can be viewed anytime online at www.miamicountyohio.gov/shelter.
