Butler Tech offers manufacturing job training

FAIRFIELD TWP. — Workforce One of Butler County is partnering with the Manufacturing Production Technician program at Butler Tech to provide free training and certification to qualified unemployed or low-income residents.

Ohio Department of Job and Family Services allocated WorkForce One, the agency in charge of administering the money, $60,000 in federal stimulus funds, said Kathleen Williams, Workforce One business services representative.

Classes start Feb. 28, meeting 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday in the D. Russel Lee Career-Technology Center, 3603 Hamilton-Middletown Road. There are up to 20 openings for the class, said Calista Smith, supervisor of development for Butler Tech Adult Workforce Education.

Qualified people will be signed up for a WorkKeys assessment at Butler Tech. The whole enrollment process could take a week or longer, Smith said.

Additional requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, no felony criminal record and a clean drug test.

The certification from the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council is nationally recognized and means the worker has basic skills for entry-level jobs at today’s manufacturing companies, Williams said.

To enroll, potential trainees must attend an orientation session at Workforce One, 4631 Dixie Highway, Fairfield. Call Workforce One at (513) 785-6500.
