Butler Twp. teen dies from head injuries following crash

CLAYTON — Clayton police today, Sunday, Jan. 3, said 17-year old Kelly Baldauf of Butler Twp. died Saturday from head injuries following a single-car crash Friday.

Clayton police and fire Chief Richard Rose said Baldauf was taken by Careflight to Miami Valley Hospital following the crash, which occurred around 5:10 p.m.

A witness said Baldauf was heading westbound on Sweet Potato Ridge Road when his truck swerved right, then left and right again before flipping several times and landing on its roof.

A passenger, Zachary Williams, 17, of Kettering, was taken by ambulance to the hospital without life-threatening injuries and was later released, officials said.

Rose said it is unknown as to why Baldauf swerved.

“There’s no reason to believe that either alcohol, speed or icy roads had anything to do with it,” Rose said.

He said it appears that Baldauf was not wearing a seat belt, “as he was ejected from the vehicle.”

He said the accident remains under investigation and that he’ll be following up with the passenger and a witness for additional information.
