Candlelight vigil marks third year anniversary of teen's death

DAYTON, Ohio --Three years ago, the body of a local teenager was found in a trash can off Jersey Street, and police still have not solved the case.

Last night, family and friends of Heather Walker held a candlelight vigil in the same Dayton alley where the 18-year-old mother's body was found.

BACKSTORY
The trash can was in between a business and a vacant house at Jersey and East 3rd Street. Authorities identified the teen as 18-year-old Heather Walker. Walker's body and the trash can were taken to the crime lab in Dayton for an autospy and to help gather evidence. Walker's mother said she is blaming Dayton Police for her daughter's death. She said that she reported her daughter missing in February, despite the fact that Walker has runaway from home in the past.

Dayton Police responded and said that they handled the missing person report in the proper manner. Authorities said the published a 72-hour broadcast for the 18-year-old. However, police said because the victim is considered an adult, and the fact that there appeared to be no immediate cause for danger, the broadcast was cancelled after 72 hours.

Police have no leads in this case. If you have info related to this case, you are asked to call 333-COPS.
