Canines part of fundraiser at tennis event

Warren County Humane Association is trying to raise $10,000 for run-and-training area.

LEBANON — Clay, a blue tick hound mix, may not have the backhand prowess of Venus Williams, but he is still hoping his leaping ability to catch a tennis ball will net him a good home in the coming weeks.

Several animals from the Warren County Humane Association will be at the Western and Southern Financial Group Masters and Women’s Open tournament Aug. 7-22, at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason to promote adoptions and raise money for the shelter.

The shelter’s presence at the tournament is due to the generosity of Doctors Urgent Care and Olympus, said Mari Lee Schwarzwalder, executive director of the Warren County Humane Association.

The animals will wear a yellow wrap-around vest that patrons can place money in. Humane Association officials are trying to raise $10,000 for a new run-and-training area for the shelter dogs behind their building on Cook Road.

The planned training area will help make the dogs more presentable to possible owners, Schwarzwalder said.

“We are beyond pleased that these two outstanding organizations have come together to help us achieve our mission of preventing and eliminating the cruelty, neglect and homelessness of pets in the Warren County area,” Schwarzwalder said.

The Humane Association will also hold a number of raffles at the tennis tournament, including a grand prize of tickets to the semifinals and finals.
