Car catches fire along I-75

A car caught fire Easter Sunday along southbound Interstate 75.

The driver of the gray Toyota noticed the engine was smoking around 3:30 p.m. and pulled into the shoulder lane near exit 47. Then, flames began to shoot from the front of the car, Sgt. Michael Hanks of the West Carrollton Police Department said.

The driver and his passenger were not hurt.

The West Carrollton Fire Department put out the fire, which was caused by a mechanical problem, Hanks said.

The car was towed, he said. Police were on the scene for about an hour.
