UPDATE @ 3:10 p.m.

Three people were taken to Miami Valley Hospital after a motorcycle collided with a blue sedan at Penewit and Centerville roads this afternoon.

The motorcyclist, an adult male, was flown to the hospital by CareFlight in critical condition, according to Lt. Matt Schmenk of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Xenia Post.

The driver and passenger in the blue sedan suffered injuries not considered life-threatening, Schmenk said.

Schmenk said the motorcyclist was traveling west on Centerville Road and struck the sedan when it pulled out onto Penewit Road. The preliminary finding is that the sedan’s driver failed to yield to the motorcycle.

Troopers kept traffic stalled for more than an hour to conduct a thorough investigation to determine who was at-fault and whether speed was a factor.

Fatalities in Greene County are happening at a faster rate this year than last.

“This year in Greene County, we’ve had eight fatal crashes with 11 traffic deaths,” Schmenk said. “We’re only half-way through the year ... It’s just a matter of people paying attention. When you come up to stop signs, looking right, looking left. Maybe doing it more than once ... a lot of times, if you look briefly, you miss a motorcycle.”
