The suspect’s brother, Amin Mustafa, said his brother didn’t steal the bag, but instead threw it in frustration. Amin Mustafa also said the 15-year-old was making racist comments toward his brother’s friend.
“My brother turned around and said he looked like he was going to get hit, and he basically just hit the kid. It was self defense,” said Amin Mustafa.
According to an incident report, Mamoun Mustafa was accused attacking the 15-year-old after Mamoun Mustafa asked for help finding a cigarette lighter in the sand with a cell phone flashlight.
Deputies said three Indiana teens were attacked in Siesta Key last week, including the 15-year-old Mamoun is accused of attacking.
Mamoun Mustafa is expected to appear in a Florida courtroom in May.
