Changes already proposed for new Austin Blvd interchange

Changes are already being planned for the Austin Boulevard interchange.  Springboro City Manager Chris Thompson says the newly designed intersection of Austin and State Route 741 is malfunctioning.  Engineers designed the $22 million continuous flow interchange with certain assumptions in mind, but traffic counts show the intersection is already handling traffic flow at 85 percent of the capacity that was projection of the year 2035.  The Ohio Department of Transportation has hiring an engineering firm to measure traffic and propose changes to improve traffic flow.  Right now a Kohl’s department store and two office buildings have opened east of the intersection.  Within two years much more construction is expected to open northwest of the intersection including three parking garages, a shopping village, apartments and a multiplex theater complex.
