UPDATE@5:15 p.m.: No charges will be filed in the accident in Springfield Twp. involving a vehicle and the child riding a scooter.

The collision involved a Jeep Cherokee driven by Jay Crawford, 51, and a scooter being ridden by William Zanish, 7. Both are of Springfield.

Williams was riding the small scooter south in the northbound lane of Cheviot Hills Drive (north of Leffel Lane), rounding a sharp curve, as the Jeep approached.

"The driver saw him coming and came nearly to a dead stop, but the child apparently didn't see the vehicle and hit it head on," said Sgt. Richard Dixon, Springfield post Ohio Highway Patrol.

Dixon said no charges will be filed because of the child's age.

William was taken to Dayton Children's Hospital suffering from injuries not believed to be life threatening. Crawford was not injured.
